Major US orchestras launch 2026-27 performance seasons
Major American orchestras are launching their 2026-27 seasons with diverse programming across various venues.
The National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) begins its season on September 26 at the Music Center at Strathmore. Led by music director Gianandrea Noseda, the season features a multi-venue schedule spanning Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Highlights include performances by composer John Adams, holiday productions of ‘The Nutcracker’ and ‘Cinderella’, and Handel’s ‘Messiah’ in December.
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is also commencing its new season following an international tour of six European countries. Under the direction of Manfred Honeck, who is entering his 19th season, the PSO will open with a gala featuring guest artist Lang Lang. The orchestra's programming aims to balance classical works, such as Brahms, with popular film-oriented music to maintain high attendance levels.
