US orchestra performance seasons

Overview

Major American orchestras are commencing their 2026-27 performance seasons with diverse programming.

The National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) is scheduled to begin its season on September 26 at the Music Center at Strathmore. Under the direction of Gianandrea Noseda, the NSO will perform across Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, with a repertoire including works by John Adams and seasonal productions such as ‘The Nutcracker’, ‘Cinderella’, and Handel’s ‘Messiah’.

Following an international tour of six European countries, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is also starting its new season. Directed by Manfred Honeck, the PSO will open with a gala featuring guest artist Lang Lang. The orchestra intends to balance classical compositions, such as those by Brahms, with popular film music to sustain attendance.
