Makassar City Government upgrades Tamangapa Landfill to resolve environmental sanctions

The Makassar City Government is accelerating improvements at the Tamangapa Landfill in Antang to comply with Ministry of Environment (KLH) regulations and resolve outstanding administrative sanctions. The initiative aims to transition the facility from an open dumping system to a more controlled sanitary landfill method.

Mayor Munafri Arifuddin recently inspected the site, noting that several required improvements had not yet met expectations following a visit from environmental law enforcement (Gakkum). Ongoing works include the arrangement and burial of sanitary landfill areas, road access improvements, pile installation, and the management of leachate ponds.

A primary focus of the remediation is the drainage and leachate management system. To prevent environmental contamination of nearby water bodies and residential areas, the Mayor has ordered that all leachate drainage must be properly connected to a wastewater treatment plant (IPAL).
