Makassar opens 2026 MTQ registration with new open audition format

The Makassar City Government has officially opened registration for the 2026 Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) at the city level. In a departure from previous years, the event will utilize an open audition concept rather than requiring participants to be representatives of specific sub-districts.

This new mechanism, developed following evaluations with the Ministry of Religion and the Board of Judges, aims to broaden participation. Registration is open online and free of charge from October 3 to October 31, 2026. The competition is open to residents of Makassar as well as individuals from all regencies and cities across South Sulawesi, including students, Islamic boarding school students, and various community organizations.
