Regional MTQ competitions in Indonesia

Various cities in Indonesia are organizing Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) competitions throughout October 2026.

In Makassar, the city government has introduced a new open audition format for the 2026 city-level MTQ. Unlike previous years, registration is no longer limited to sub-district representatives; instead, the competition is open to all Makassar residents and individuals from across South Sulawesi, including students and community organizations. Registration is conducted online and free of charge.

In Serang, the LPTQ is organizing a competition featuring nine branches, such as tilawah and qiraat, with some categories allowing participants to represent institutions like high schools. Meanwhile, Padang is scheduled to host its 42nd National MTQ from October 10 to 14, 2026. This event involves approximately 663 participants competing in 13 branches to serve as a selection process for the 2027 West Sumatra provincial MTQ. The Padang competition includes a prize pool of Rp599 million and aims to support the “Smart Surau” program for local religious education.
