Makokou prepares for Gabon's National Liberation Day

The city of Makokou, capital of Gabon's Ogooué-Ivindo province, is undergoing significant infrastructure development in preparation for the third edition of the National Liberation Day celebrations, scheduled for August 25–31, 2026.

Under the direction of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, local authorities are racing to complete various projects, including a new administrative building, urban road rehabilitation, and the renovation of public buildings. Residential developments are also underway, with 15 housing units slated for delivery and 200 plots announced for sale. Economic infrastructure projects include a modern municipal market and a new headquarters for the Banque du Commerce et de l’Entreprise du Gabon.

In a related civic initiative, local officials held a training session for neighborhood chiefs in Makokou to mark the 17th National Flag Day on August 9. During the seminar, Ivindo Department Prefect Pachelli Ngawin Mboulou and Provincial Director of Culture Marie Françoise Maganga-Etoughé emphasized the importance of respecting national symbols and fostering patriotism under the 2026 theme, "One flag, one united Nation: together let us build the new Gabon."
