Infrastructure and commercial development in Makokou

The city of Makokou, capital of Gabon’s Ogooué-Ivindo province, is undergoing extensive infrastructure and commercial upgrades in preparation for the third National Liberation Day celebrations.

Initial preparations focused on large-scale urban development directed by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. These projects included road rehabilitation, the construction of a new administrative building, and the renovation of public structures. Residential expansion was also prioritized through the delivery of new housing units and the sale of land plots. Additionally, civic initiatives were held to promote patriotism and respect for national symbols.

As the celebrations approached, efforts shifted toward commercial modernization and addressing the cost of living. The Centrale d’Achat du Gabon (CEAG) implemented a mobile market to provide essential goods at reduced prices. Concurrently, the city prepared for the inauguration of a modern municipal market in Allarmintang, a project designed to improve sanitary conditions and urban commerce.
