Spain weather: Record rainfall in Extremadura and storms in Andalucía

Spain is experiencing significant weather fluctuations across the regions of Extremadura and Andalucía. In Extremadura, Guijo de Granadilla recorded a record-breaking 123 liters of rain per square meter in a single day, making it the wettest location in the country. This intense rainfall triggered red alerts for the Alagón basin and led to the temporary evacuation of 16 residents in Corte de Peleas due to flooding. While the regional government has since deactivated its special flood protection plan as conditions stabilize, authorities continue to assess damage to homes and businesses.

In Andalucía, weather patterns show a transition toward cooler temperatures and increased instability. AEMET reports cloudy skies and moderate rainfall across much of the region, with yellow warnings issued for rain and storms in areas such as Sol and Guadalhorce. While some provinces like Sevilla and Córdoba face unstable conditions with potential afternoon showers, other areas are experiencing a mix of high temperatures in the interior and residual instability in the east.
