Malappuram man detained after woman's body found in Tirur River

Police in Kerala’s Malappuram district have taken a 40-year-old man into custody following the discovery of his wife’s body inside a sack in the Tirur River. The body of 37-year-old Fousiya was recovered near Padinjarekkara after fishermen discovered a sack caught on their boat’s anchor while attempting to lift it.

Fousiya had been reported missing along with her husband, Husain, since Thursday. Preliminary investigations suggest she may have been murdered. Authorities intercepted Husain while he was traveling on a public transport bus near Tirur on Saturday.

Investigators noted that the couple’s marital relationship was reportedly strained and characterized by frequent quarrels. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination, and police are questioning Husain to establish a motive and the circumstances surrounding the death.
