Turkey medical reports: Surgeons remove massive tumors

Several significant medical cases involving the removal of large or rare tumors have been reported in Turkey.

In Malatya, doctors at Malatya Training and Research Hospital successfully removed a massive ovarian mass weighing approximately 15 kilograms and measuring over 40 centimeters. The patient, Fatma Avşar, had presented with abdominal pain and rapid swelling. Prof. Dr. Engin Yıldırım noted that such large ovarian masses are rare and can grow quickly, causing pressure on organs like the lungs.

In Istanbul, a 52-year-old patient underwent a minimally invasive procedure at Medipol Acıbadem Regional Hospital to remove a rare inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor from the lung. The mass, measuring about 5 centimeters, was discovered during a routine cardiac check-up prompted by family medical history.

Additionally, in Burdur, a 30-year-old man named Veli Kapan underwent a six-hour multidisciplinary surgery at Burdur State Hospital. Surgeons successfully removed a 13-centimeter mass located behind the mesentery that was pressing on the urinary tract, large intestine, and major blood vessels.
