Malatya food inspections seize fraudulent products at local fair

Authorities in Malatya, Turkey, conducted extensive food safety inspections at a local products fair held in the Malatya Metropolitan Municipality parking lot. The inspections were coordinated by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, with participation from police and municipal municipal police teams.

During the operation, officials seized 230 kilograms of heat-treated chicken sausage being falsely sold as ‘beef sausage’ and approximately 150 kilograms of processed cheese. These items were sent to the Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Animal Shelter and Natural Life Area to be destroyed.

Additionally, authorities seized 600 liters of mixed oil being sold as olive oil, 285 kilograms of unlabeled tomato paste, and 86 liters of suspicious sauces labeled as pomegranate molasses, cranberry extract, and blueberry extract. These products were placed under judicial custody to prevent further sales. The Malatya Governor's Office stated that these measures were taken under Law No. 5996 to ensure public access to reliable food and to protect public health.
