Malatya Municipality Launches New Road and Modern Irrigation Systems

The Malatya Metropolitan Municipality is expanding local infrastructure with two concurrent projects. In the Battalgazi district, a new 2.5‑kilometre, 15‑metre‑wide road is being built through Üzümlü neighbourhood to link the villages of University, Gülümuşağı, Fırıncı, Üzümlü and Beydağı (Mamurek) and to provide a route toward Sincik in Adıyaman. Muhtar Kadir Akdağ said the road will serve many neighbourhoods and improve daily travel.

At the same time, the municipality is upgrading agricultural water use across eight rural quarters. New irrigation pipes totalling several kilometres have been laid in Akçadağ Develi, Akçadağ Esenbey, Battalgazi Karaköy and other areas, and existing canals have been repaired. Local officials report that the modernised closed‑system irrigation reduces water loss, boosts crop yields and supports the regional economy.

Both initiatives are part of Malatya’s broader effort to enhance transportation connectivity and agricultural productivity for its residents.
