Two police officers injured as violent brawl erupts in Eskişehir
On the evening of 16 July, a dispute between two groups in Odunpazarı’s 71 Evler Mahallesi, Obruk Street, escalated into a street fight using stones, batons and knives. Police units responding to the incident were caught in the melee, and two officers were injured. Six civilians were also hurt, two of them in critical condition.
Security‑camera recordings released later show the packed crowd striking each other and the police officers being struck while trying to separate the parties. The victim, 34‑year‑old Orhan Karaca, said he was hit by a wooden beam (“satır”) and then beaten with various weapons. After the clash, police detained 18 suspects; five of those were subsequently sentenced to prison by a court.
