Malawi Scorchers WAFCON 2026 title prospects and official clarifications
Blantyre Mayor Isaac Jomo Osman has expressed high confidence in the Malawi women’s national football team, the Scorchers, predicting an 85 percent chance of winning the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco. Ahead of their semi-final match against Algeria, Osman noted the team's strong attacking capabilities and the support they have received from Moroccan fans.
In response to social media speculation regarding the absence of Adelaide Migogo, chair of the National Women’s Football Association, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) issued a clarification. The association stated that Migogo and other executive members departed Morocco following the group stage in accordance with a prior agreement. FAM confirmed that Felistus Dossi was designated as the official leader of the delegation for the remainder of the tournament, while FAM president Fleetwood Haiya and the secretariat remained to support the team's campaign.
