Malaysia and Vietnam deepen defence partnership with renewed MoU

Malaysia and Vietnam have renewed their 2023 Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation, positioning it as a roadmap to deepen bilateral security ties. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, on a two‑day official visit to Hanoi, said the updated MoU reflects both countries’ commitment to strengthen cooperation in maritime security, capability development, technology and defence industry, as well as to address emerging challenges such as cyber threats, artificial intelligence and grey‑zone activities.

During the visit Nordin is scheduled to meet Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Phan Van Giang. Both sides highlighted shared strategic views, ASEAN‑based dialogue and the need for collective regional resilience to maintain peace and stability in Southeast Asia.
