Malaysia arrests police officers and foreign worker in crimes involving foreign nationals

Two police officers in Kedah were detained after being accused of robbing foreign residents. In one incident on 27 June, an officer allegedly seized RM1,750 in cash and a UNHCR card from a household in Padang Sera. In a second incident on 1 July, a 26‑year‑old officer is alleged to have taken a UNHCR card, two mobile phones and a pair of gold‑coloured earrings from a foreign family in Alor Setar, later fleeing on a motorcycle. The suspects were arrested on 2 July, their police credentials and equipment seized, and the case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which carries up to 14 years’ imprisonment.

In a separate case in Mukah, Sarawak, a 21‑year‑old foreign labourer was arrested after police found a straw‑tube containing methamphetamine crystals (approximately 0.46 g) during a raid on a construction site in Kampung Tellian Tengah. A urine test confirmed amphetamine‑type drug use. The suspect is being charged under Sections 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and under the Immigration Act for lacking valid travel documents, and has been remanded for four days pending further investigation.
