The group will conduct mandatory drug screening for all 1,260 Malaysia Airlines pilots, with testing to be completed by 15 August 2026; pilots who miss the deadline will be barred from flying until cleared. The programme will supplement existing random testing and later expand to all active pilots and cabin crew across MAG’s airlines, which also include the short‑haul carrier Firefly and the pilgrimage airline Amal. MAG CEO Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar said the incident was “completely unacceptable” and underscored a zero‑tolerance stance. Malaysia’s Civil Aviation Authority has opened a regulatory investigation, and the tourism minister called for a broader review of airport security and border controls.
