Malaysia Aviation Group to acquire Sepang Aircraft Engineering from Airbus

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has signed a sale and purchase agreement to acquire Sepang Aircraft Engineering (SAE) from Airbus. The transaction, which involves the wholly owned subsidiary of Airbus, is expected to be finalized in 2027, subject to regulatory approvals including those from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.

The acquisition is a component of MAG’s Long-Term Business Plan 3.0 (LTBP 3.0) and aims to strengthen the group’s engineering and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities. By integrating SAE, MAG intends to expand its aviation services and increase revenue from third-party customers within the ASEAN region and beyond.

SAE, founded in 2007 and fully acquired by Airbus in 2017, provides specialized services including Airbus A320 expertise, component repair, and dedicated hangar facilities. MAG President and Group CEO Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar stated that the move is a disciplined investment designed to capture growth in the MRO market and support Malaysia’s ambition to become a regional aerospace hub.
