Southeast Asian aviation MRO expansion
Overview
Aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities are expanding across Southeast Asia.
In Singapore, Safran Landing Systems has invested $22 million to expand its MRO center, adding a 7,500-square-meter extension and a new assembly line for landing gear overhauls. This expansion, supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board, is expected to create nearly 100 jobs by 2030. Additionally, Acron Aviation has extended its agreement with Thales Singapore to provide regional repair and overhaul services for ACSS surveillance products.
In Malaysia, the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has signed an agreement to acquire Sepang Aircraft Engineering (SAE) from Airbus. Expected to finalize in 2027, the acquisition is part of MAG’s Long-Term Business Plan 3.0 and aims to strengthen the group’s engineering capabilities and increase revenue from third-party customers within the ASEAN region.
