Malaysia courts jail two men for liquor smuggling, another for diesel fraud

Two local men, aged 32 and 25, were sentenced by the Labuan Magistrates' Court to three months in jail after they failed to pay RM10,000 fines for illegally transporting 86 bottles of undeclared liquor from Labuan to the main customs area. Their four‑wheel vehicle was seized and forfeited to the Royal Malaysian Customs Department under the Customs Act 1967.

In a separate case in Butterworth, Penang, 38‑year‑old Myanmar national Nai Thet Naung pleaded guilty to storing 5,808 litres of diesel without proper authorization. He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and ordered to forfeit the proceeds, under the Supply Control Act 1961. Both prosecutions highlight Malaysia's strict enforcement of customs and supply‑control regulations.
