Malaysia courts sentence men for child sexual abuse offences

A car salesman in Muar, Tan Yean Xuen, 26, pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography involving a nine‑year‑old boy. The Muar Magistrate Court sentenced him to six months in jail and a RM3,000 fine; a further six‑month term would be imposed if the fine were not paid, which he satisfied.

In a separate case in Tumpat, 22‑year‑old Muhamad Amar Abi Karimi was charged with physically assaulting his 14‑year‑old niece. He denied the allegations, and the court set bail at RM9,000 with a guarantor, adjourning the trial to 13 July. Both cases were prosecuted under Malaysia’s 2017 Sexual Offences Against Children Act.
