Malaysia economy projected to grow 5.8% in Q2 2026
Malaysia's economy is projected to expand by 5.8% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, according to advance estimates. This represents an acceleration from the 5.4% growth recorded in the first quarter. The growth is expected to be driven by strong external demand, robust export performance, domestic consumption, and private investment.
Analysts anticipate a stable earnings season for companies listed on Bursa Malaysia, with the technology and plantation sectors identified as potential standout performers. The plantation sector may benefit from favorable crude palm oil prices, which have risen over 10% this year.
Despite the positive economic outlook, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East present potential risks, specifically regarding supply chain disruptions and increased energy costs due to the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz. However, market experts suggest the full impact of these conflicts may not be immediately evident in corporate earnings until the second half of the year.
