Malaysia EV registrations surge in June 2026

In June 2026 Malaysia registered 6,215 electric vehicles, an 89.9% increase over June 2025 and up 23.4% from May 2026. EVs accounted for 8.52% of the 72,943 total vehicle registrations that month, marking the second‑highest monthly EV share of the year.

Proton’s e.MAS 5 reclaimed the top spot with 1,309 units, while the e.MAS 7 placed second with 579 units, together delivering 30.4% of June’s EV registrations. Tesla’s Model Y jumped to third place with 526 units and Model 3 rose to fourth with 409 units, bringing Tesla to third overall with 935 units. BYD’s Atto 3 staged a comeback, moving to fifth with 371 units, matching Zeekr 7X. Other notable models included the Chery iCaur V23, BYD Sealion, and Perodua QV‑E.

Across the first half of 2026, EV registrations rose 85.1% year‑on‑year to 31,738 units, while the overall vehicle market grew 3.2% to 409,310 units. Proton remains the dominant EV brand with 13,530 registrations (43% market share), followed by BYD with 5,675 registrations.
