Malaysia football team receives FIFA approval for naturalized players
The Malaysian national football team has received confirmation from FIFA regarding the eligibility of two Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) players, Bergson da Silva and Brad Tapp, to represent the country in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.
Bergson da Silva, 35, is a naturalized player who has met the five-year residency requirement. Brad Tapp, 25, is expected to serve as a versatile asset in both central defense and defensive midfield.
The squad selection for the tournament features significant changes from the previous ASEAN Hyundai Cup campaign, including the inclusion of 13 naturalized players. Because the FIFA ASEAN Cup falls within FIFA international match days, clubs are required to release players, allowing coach Tan Cheng Hoe to access a stronger roster compared to previous regional competitions.
