Malaysia implements 11 measures to enhance school safety

The Malaysian Ministry of Education has begun implementing 11 additional measures to strengthen safety and well-being in educational institutions nationwide. These steps, which started in October 2025, are being rolled out in stages.

A major component of the initiative is the phased expansion of CCTV cameras in boarding schools. The first phase, involving RM3 million for 200 schools, was completed in November 2025. The second phase, with an allocation of RM5 million for 333 schools, is expected to conclude by September 2026, followed by a third phase in 2027 involving RM15 million for 1,000 schools.

To improve supervision, 300 MySTEP hostel warden assistants were appointed starting April 1, 2026. Additionally, 400 wardens have received training in Psychological First Aid. The Ministry is also addressing mental health by adding 5,107 new counselor positions to schools and increasing the frequency of the ‘Sihat Minda’ screening process.

Security cooperation with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is also being strengthened through the appointment of School Liaison Officers.
