Malaysia introduces MyGOV app for online MyKad replacement
The Malaysian government has launched the MyGOV application, a single digital service gateway designed to consolidate various public sector agency services into one mobile platform. Through this app, citizens can now apply for MyKad (identity card) replacements online, reducing the need to queue at National Registration Department (JPN) counters.
Online applications are subject to specific conditions. The service is limited to cases of physical damage, chip damage, or the first instance of loss due to negligence. Subsequent losses require an in-person visit to a counter. Additionally, the online process is only available for replacements that do not involve changes to personal information or photographs, as old photos are automatically reused. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a MyGOV account verified via MyDigitalID. The system is operational Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, excluding public holidays.
