Malaysia MyKad digital replacement service launch

The Malaysian Ministry of Digital has introduced a digital service for MyKad replacement via the MyGOV Malaysia application. This mobile platform serves as a single gateway to consolidate various public sector agency services, allowing citizens to apply for replacements due to physical damage, faulty chips, or chip upgrades without initially visiting a National Registration Department (JPN) counter.

To utilize the service, applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a MyGOV account verified through MyDigitalID. The online process is restricted to cases that do not require changes to personal information or photographs, as the system automatically reuses existing photos. While some JPN offices can issue new cards within 30 minutes, processing times vary by location.

Fees for replacements range from RM10 to RM110. A standard replacement or chip upgrade costs RM10, whereas a first-time lost card incurs a total fee of RM110, which includes a RM100 statutory fine. The service is available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, excluding public holidays. Subsequent losses of the identity card require an in-person visit to a counter.
