Malaysia introduces online MyKad replacement via MyGOV app
The Malaysian Ministry of Digital has announced that citizens can now initiate MyKad replacement applications online through the MyGOV Malaysia application. This digital service allows users to apply for replacements due to lost cards, damaged cards, faulty chips, or chip upgrades without needing to visit a counter for the initial application steps.
To use the service, applicants aged 18 and older must log in to a verified MyGOV account via MyDigitalID. The process involves selecting the birth and identity management menu, providing necessary details, and selecting a collection point, such as a National Registration Department (JPN) branch or an Urban Transformation Centre (UTC). Payments can be made online using FPX, debit cards, or credit cards.
Replacement fees range from RM10 to RM110. A standard replacement or chip upgrade costs RM10, while a first-time lost card incurs a total fee of RM110, which includes a RM100 statutory fine. While some JPN offices can provide the new card within 30 minutes, processing times vary by location. Note that changes to personal records still require an in-person visit to the JPN.
