Malaysia kidnapping case: six suspects to be charged over RM7 million ransom

Six local suspects will be charged in the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court for kidnapping a businessman and demanding a RM7 million ransom. The charges are under Section 3(1) of the 1961 Kidnapping Act, which carries a prison term of 30 to 40 years and caning.

Police investigations concluded on eight suspects; two were released on bail and will act as prosecution witnesses under Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The kidnapping occurred on 17 July in i‑City, Shah Alam, after the victim’s wife reported the abduction. Police rescued the victim early the next morning.

Datuk M. Kumar, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, said the investigation files were referred to the Attorney‑General’s Chambers on 24 July and that the court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
