Malaysia Shah Alam kidnapping case
Entities: Datuk M. Kumar Muthuvelu · Shah Alam · Petaling Jaya Magistrate Court
Overview
Malaysian police rescued a businessman abducted in Shah Alam’s I‑City area within 48 hours of a report from his wife, seizing drugs, phones and vehicles used by the kidnappers. Six suspects – five men and one woman aged 30‑46 – were arrested and remanded under the Kidnapping Act 1961.
A week later, investigators concluded their probe, releasing two suspects on bail to act as prosecution witnesses. The remaining six were formally charged in the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court for demanding a RM7 million ransom, facing up to 40 years’ imprisonment and caning. The case files were referred to the Attorney‑General’s Chambers, and a court hearing was scheduled for the following day.
On 27 July, the six men appeared at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate Court escorted by armed police to face the kidnapping charges under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961. The investigation had initially detained eight individuals; two – a woman and a man – were released on bail and will serve as witnesses for the trial. The prosecution direction has been issued and the case proceeds in court.
