Malaysia Leading Index grows 1.3% in June
Malaysia's Leading Index (LI) maintained positive momentum in June 2026, recording a year-on-year growth of 1.3 percent to reach 114.8 points. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), this growth was primarily driven by a significant surge in the real import of precious base metals and other non-ferrous metals, which rose by 35.1 percent, alongside a stable 14.2 percent increase in semiconductor imports.
This trend aligns with strengthening trade activities, particularly sustained demand for electrical and electronic (E&E) products. However, the overall performance was partially offset by a decline in the number of newly registered companies. On a monthly basis, the LI saw a marginal increase of 0.02 percent.
Additionally, the Coincident Index (CI) showed a year-on-year strengthening of 2.6 percent, reaching 131.6 points. This was supported by growth in several components, including a 16 percent increase in the real contribution value of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and a 4.1 percent rise in the retail trade quantity index.
