Southeast Asia faces extreme weather and flood warnings

Southeast Asia is facing widespread extreme weather conditions, including heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds, across parts of Indonesia and Malaysia.

In Indonesia, severe winds in Mamasa have damaged 22 houses and four schools, forcing 72 students to study in emergency tents. In West Sumatra, meteorologists have issued warnings for potential floods and landslides through early October due to atmospheric dynamics and warm sea surface temperatures. North Sumatra is also on alert for moderate rainfall and potential hydrometeorological disasters following recent flooding in Langkat and Tapanuli Tengah.

In Malaysia, METMalaysia has issued thunderstorm and heavy rain warnings for multiple states, including Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan. Residents in these regions are advised to remain vigilant against flash floods and strong winds.
