Malaysia Ministry of Health targets mental health in public service and schools
The Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) is expanding its support to address mental health challenges among both public servants and students.
To assist the Public Service Department (JPA), KKM will provide technical expertise to develop Mental Health Guidelines and a Mental Health Index for the public service. This initiative follows reports that 55,169 civil servants were categorized as high-risk for mental health issues, including suicidal tendencies, through the MyPsyD psychological digital health profiling system.
Additionally, KKM is strengthening its collaboration with the Ministry of Education (KPM) to mitigate suicide risks among students, particularly those linked to bullying. This partnership focuses on increasing mental health literacy, enhancing school counseling services, and implementing early detection and intervention strategies. The Ministry aims to utilize Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) teams to assist affected schools and communities through proactive and preventive programs.
