Malaysia multi-vehicle crash kills four on East Coast Expressway

A severe multi-vehicle collision involving 11 vehicles occurred on the East Coast Expressway (LPT1) in Malaysia on the night of August 31, coinciding with the end of the National Day long weekend. The accident took place near the 110.4 km mark in the Lanchang area, heading towards Kuantan, at approximately 10:44 PM.

Preliminary investigations suggest a cement truck lost control and crashed into a queue of slow-moving traffic. The pile-up included a long-distance bus, a fuel tanker, and several private cars and SUVs. The collision resulted in four fatalities and four injuries.

Among the deceased were a family of three—a 32-year-old man, his 31-year-old wife, and their 4-year-old son—who were traveling back to Kuantan after attending National Day celebrations in Putrajaya. The fourth victim was a 55-year-old Chinese man from Shah Alam, Selangor, who was traveling in an SUV.

Four others were injured in the crash, including the 52-year-old cement truck driver and an 18-year-old SUV driver, both of whom sustained serious injuries, while two other passengers suffered minor injuries.
