Fatal multi-vehicle collision on Malaysia's LPT1

Overview

On the night of August 31, 2026, a massive multi-vehicle collision involving 11 vehicles occurred on the East Coast Expressway (LPT1) near Lanchang, heading towards Kuantan. Preliminary investigations indicated that a cement truck lost control and crashed into slow-moving traffic, which included a long-distance bus, a fuel tanker, and several private vehicles.

The accident resulted in four fatalities: a 32-year-old man, his 31-year-old wife, and their 4-year-old son, along with a 55-year-old man from Selangor. Four other individuals sustained various injuries.

Following the incident, the 52-year-old driver of the cement truck, Zulkarnain Md Noh, was charged with four counts of murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Due to the driver's medical requirements, prosecution proceedings were conducted at Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah. The case is scheduled for mention on November 12.
