Malaysia PM Anwar rules out Bersatu joining Pakatan Harapan coalition

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, also chairman of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, said there are no indications that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is seeking to join PH. He made the remarks in Tokyo at the close of his official visit to Japan, emphasizing that political cooperation should be based on proper negotiation and should not involve moves that could be seen as betraying unity‑government partners.

Anwar noted that the federal unity government remains strong despite some differences at the state level, and that the speculation arose after the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) announced it was ending its political alliance with Bersatu. He reiterated that no discussions, formal or informal, have taken place within Bersatu about rejoining PH.
