AKPS Director-General under investigation for alleged assault at KLIA
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is investigating allegations that Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the Director-General of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), physically assaulted two police officers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on September 28.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department is conducting the probe under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which pertains to voluntarily causing bodily pain or infirmity. Investigators have recorded statements from 25 witnesses, including police personnel, AKPS officials, airport auxiliary police, baggage handlers, medical staff, and independent witnesses.
The investigation paper is expected to be submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) for review and further instructions.
Regarding the incident, Mohd Shuhaily previously stated that he was questioning a foreign national when a police officer appeared and filmed the process without permission, leading him to order the deletion of the video. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail noted that the investigation is proceeding through proper channels to ensure all evidence is collected.
