Malaysia postpones Najib Razak's pardon application

Malaysia’s Pardons Board has postponed discussions regarding the pardon application of former Prime Minister Najib Razak. The decision follows public outcry concerning the possibility of his release following corruption convictions related to the 1MDB fund.

King Sultan Ibrahim, who chairs the Pardons Board, decreed that the discussion on Najib’s application be “postponed to the next Pardons Board meeting that will be held in future”. This comes after Najib’s legal battles, which included a conviction for abuse of power and money laundering.

During the same meeting for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, the King granted pardons to 65 other convicts. Non-citizen prisoners included in this group are to be deported to their home countries within six months of their release.
