Malaysia celebrates 69th National Day with nationwide parades
Malaysia celebrated its 69th National Day with widespread festivities across the country. In Putrajaya, over 100,000 people gathered at Dataran Putrajaya for a grand parade featuring 76 contingents, including security forces, government agencies, and educational institutions. The event was graced by the presence of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Raja Zarith Sofiah. Highlights included an air show by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and various cultural performances.
Regional celebrations were also prominent. In Perak, approximately 50,000 people attended festivities in Ipoh, attended by Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah. Kelantan held a ceremony at Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV, which included a spiritual program and fireworks. Sabah hosted celebrations at Dataran Bandaran, featuring parades of antique and electric vehicles.
In conjunction with the celebrations, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced several government initiatives under the MADANI framework, including fuel subsidies, school maintenance funding, and digital health investments. Various community activities, such as the Malaysia Marathon 2026 and local runs in Johor, further marked the occasion. While the celebrations were largely successful, some social media discussions highlighted issues regarding crowd management and public etiquette at major venues.
