Malaysia Prime Minister orders crackdown on e-commerce fraud
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and the Ministry of Communications, via the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to take immediate action against fraud on e-commerce platforms.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that the directive follows concerns regarding issues faced by users, including high commission fees charged to sellers and discrepancies between ordered products and those received. The Prime Minister specifically emphasized the need to address scams and fraudulent activities within these digital marketplaces.
The MCMC recently met with major e-commerce platform players to discuss these matters. Additionally, an enforcement agency retreat is scheduled in the coming weeks to coordinate integrated actions to resolve consumer grievances. Further announcements regarding these issues are expected during the National Courier Day celebrations.
