Malaysia records 4,289 school bullying cases in six months

Malaysia's Ministry of Education recorded 4,289 bullying cases in schools and hostels between March and August. According to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, physical bullying was the most prevalent type with 2,480 cases, followed by verbal bullying (1,386), non-verbal bullying (243), and cyberbullying (180).

To address these incidents and improve hostel safety, the Ministry is implementing a multi-faceted approach involving enforcement, environmental supervision, victim protection, and psychosocial intervention. A key part of this strategy includes the installation of CCTV cameras in boarding schools.

The Ministry has allocated RM3 million for CCTV installation in 200 boarding schools previously, with an additional RM5 million allocated this year for 333 schools. A third phase planned for 2027 involves a RM15 million allocation to expand CCTV coverage to 1,000 schools nationwide.
