Malaysia reviews cost-of-living measures for 2027 Budget

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim chaired the second National Cost of Living Action Council (NACCOL) meeting of 2026 to review measures aimed at easing household financial pressures. The discussions focused on initiatives to be incorporated into the 2027 Budget framework, which is expected to be submitted to Parliament on October 9.

Key priorities include strengthening enforcement against excessive pricing and profiteering. Anwar reviewed progress from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and directed agencies to improve cross-departmental coordination to enhance enforcement efficiency.

The government also intends to monitor how global geopolitical developments impact the price and supply of essential goods, ensuring timely responses to mitigate the impact of external factors on domestic living costs.
