Malaysia seeks diplomatic aid to find 54 citizens missing in Nepal floods

The Malaysia Solidarity Families in Hope (MASFIH) is calling for continued diplomatic efforts to locate 54 Malaysian citizens still missing following devastating floods and landslides in Rasuwagadhi, Nepal. Although Nepal has officially ended its search and rescue (SAR) operations, MASFIH spokesperson Dr. R. Manivannan Rethinam emphasized that the search for certainty must continue through active diplomatic channels with both Nepal and China.

To assist in identification, MASFIH has recommended the submission of 20 additional DNA samples to Chinese authorities. This would complete a set of 23 samples for a specific group of travelers, allowing for more comprehensive comparison and identification.

Additionally, the group is requesting that the Malaysian government use diplomatic ties with China to provide families with digital access to a catalog of personal belongings found at Gyirong Port. This would enable relatives to review and identify items belonging to the missing individuals.
