Malaysia strengthens border security following Southern Thailand unrest

Malaysian authorities have increased security along the Malaysia-Thailand border following a surge of violence in three provinces of Southern Thailand. The unrest included over 50 explosions, arson attacks on local government offices, and tire burnings.

In response to the violence, a curfew was imposed in Narathiwat province from 10:15 PM on August 22 until 5:00 AM the following day. The explosions caused significant alarm among residents in border villages such as Kampung Lubok Gong and Kampung Tersang.

Khalid Ismail, Director of Police, has advised the public to avoid traveling to the conflict zones due to the heightened security situation. He emphasized the need for increased border controls to protect Malaysian citizens who frequently travel to the area.
