Malaysian Army officer detained with firearm and suspected illegal substances

The Malaysian Army (TDM) has handed over a military officer to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for investigation following an incident on September 28. The officer was found in possession of a firearm, ammunition, and a liquid suspected to be an illegal substance at a public higher education institution.

Initial urine screening indicated the officer tested positive for mitragynine, though the Malaysian Army noted that this result is subject to further laboratory analysis and official investigation.

In response to the incident, the Malaysian Army conducted immediate inspections of all weapon and ammunition storage facilities. The army confirmed that all weapons and ammunition are accounted for, with no losses recorded. The military stated it is cooperating fully with authorities and will take appropriate action if investigations confirm any breaches of discipline or regulations.
