Malaysian art exhibitions launch to celebrate Malaysia Day

Various art exhibitions are launching in Malaysia to celebrate Merdeka and Malaysia Day.

Hoan Gallery at La Promenade Mall will host ‘Under Sarawak Skies’ from September 16 to November 8. The exhibition features over 100 artworks by more than 30 artists from Sarawak, Singapore, Thailand, and Peninsular Malaysia. The showcase is the culmination of the Sarawak Art Expedition & Field Trip Programme and will include workshops, a documentary by Big Lau Studios, and a visit from Deputy Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

At The Gardens Mall, the ‘Exploring Local Art 4.0’ exhibition presents a multi-sensory reimagining of Malaysian batik. In collaboration with Kapten Batik and artist Jun Ong, the installation uses kinetic sculptures, projection mapping, and ambient soundscapes to bridge traditional craft with modern technology. The display includes monumental light-filled installations and a fabric tunnel designed to evoke heritage memories.
