Malaysian art exhibitions celebrating national heritage

Various art exhibitions are being held across Malaysia to celebrate Merdeka and Malaysia Day.

At The Gardens Mall in Kuala Lumpur, the ‘Exploring Local Art 4.0’ exhibition showcases Malaysian heritage through batik and traditional culture. The event features monumental installations such as Forge, Imprint, Spectrum, Melt, and Canopy, created in collaboration with Kapten Batik and artist Jun Ong. This multi-sensory display utilizes light, sound, and technology, including kinetic sculptures and projection mapping, to reimagine the batik-making process. Visitors can also engage with interactive installations of traditional games and a ten-layer fabric tunnel.

Additionally, the Hoan Gallery at La Promenade Mall will host ‘Under Sarawak Skies’ from September 16 to November 8. This exhibition features over 100 artworks by more than 30 artists from Sarawak, Singapore, Thailand, and Peninsular Malaysia, serving as the culmination of the Sarawak Art Expedition & Field Trip Programme.
