Malaysian authorities detain 12 officials in separate corruption probes

The Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) of the Royal Malaysia Police launched a disciplinary investigation into twelve police officers suspected of extorting a foreign national for RM2 million. JIPS Director Datuk Aida Abdul Hamid said the probe focuses on possible breaches of conduct and supervision, and disciplinary action, including possible suspension, will be considered as the case progresses.

In a parallel anti‑corruption operation, the Malaysian Anti‑Corruption Commission (SPRM) arrested twelve individuals, among them six immigration officers, a police officer and several company directors, for operating a syndicate that produced 1,306 counterfeit temporary work passes (PLKS). The scheme allegedly caused a loss of about RM2.4 million to the government. The raid, coordinated with the Immigration Department, Cyber Security Malaysia and other agencies, uncovered the illegal issuance of the passes without the required levies. The suspects are to be remanded pending court proceedings.
