Malaysian authorities intercept subsidized cooking oil smuggling attempt

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt involving subsidized cooking oil in the waters of Sungai Tanjung Batu, Sandakan. During an early morning patrol, authorities spotted a suspicious boat, which attempted to flee into a mangrove area after being approached by enforcement officers.

Upon inspection, officials discovered 60 packages containing approximately 1,020 packets of subsidized cooking oil. The seizure, which included two Yamaha outboard engines, is estimated to be worth RM60,550. The incident is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for transporting controlled goods without valid permits or authorization.
