Malaysian subsidized cooking oil enforcement operations

Overview

Malaysian authorities have conducted multiple enforcement operations targeting the illegal movement and diversion of subsidized cooking oil.

On September 14, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency intercepted a smuggling attempt in the waters of Sungai Tanjung Batu, Sandakan. Officers seized approximately 1,020 packets of subsidized cooking oil and two outboard engines, with an estimated value of RM60,550. The incident is under investigation regarding the transport of controlled goods without authorization.

Following this, on September 15, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) raided a site in Port Klang, Selangor. This operation uncovered a suspected diversion operation involving 5,091 kg of cooking oil packets and 5,000 kg of liquid suspected to be cooking oil. Authorities seized equipment and vehicles valued at over RM211,000 and detained five individuals. The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
